The Headmaster’s Wife opens with a naked man walking through the snow in Central Park. The police pick him up, and once he’s at the station, he begins to unwind a convoluted story of a recent affair with a student at the elite prep school where he serves as headmaster. But bits of his story don’t cohere, and I had to keep reading to find out why. And that’s really all I can tell you without turning this review into a spoiler.
What I can tell you is that The Headmaster’s Wife a well-crafted tale of love and marriage, loss and pain. And though I had some quibbles with the ending, I was hooked all the way through.
