Midnight at Marble Arch by Anne Perry

midnightI rarely review books by such best-selling authors as Anne Perry and Louise Penny; readers who like these writers wait for each new title and don’t need any prompting to seek it out.   But if you’re not familiar with Anne Perry and you enjoy murder mysteries set in Victorian London, you’ll want to seek out Midnight at Marble Arch.

In this novel, Perry again brings us Charlotte Pitt, who abandoned high society to marry policeman Thomas Pitt, who has since risen to become head of Special Branch.  A gripping whodunit with loads of atmosphere—and even a dab of romance—it even provides a substantial history lesson on events that contributed to the eruption of the Boer War.
