I have to start with a confession: I have not been spending my evenings curled up with books lately. I have been watching The West Wing on DVD (currently halfway through Season 2), going out for ice cream, and re-reading the Harry Potter series. If readers were wondering about the lack of new book reviews on this blog, that would be why.
That’s not to say I am not currently reading anything. In fact, I’m making one of my infrequent reading trips into nonfiction with Maine author Hannah Holmes’ Suburban Safari: A Year on the Lawn. It’s fun, informative, and makes me wish I had a bird feeder outside. Once I finish I will post a review here, so stay tuned! (Admittedly, the way things have been going, readers might be tuned for a while–perhaps my DVD player will break or there will be an ice cream shortage or something)
Instead of a new review, then, I’m going to offer a new reading list. It’s a list that I compiled a few months ago to send to a lady in Illinois who wrote asking for book suggestions. She didn’t specify exactly what she wanted, so I just made her a list of my personal favorites. I tried to be as broad as possible when choosing them, so I hope they represent wide appeal. There isn’t any nonfiction on this particular list, as I mainly read fiction.
Click here for the list, which you can also find in the Suggested Reading section of the blog.
…now I’ll have to come up with something new to keep in reserve for the next time I get caught up with television instead of reading books.
